A super-wide load moves from Lloydminster to Fort McMurray over five nights, starting on March 10. The rolling closures will take place on the un-twinned sections of Highways 16, 36/29, 28 and 63 between Lloydminster and Fort McMurray as the convoy passes, because the load covers the width of two lanes. Travel route March 10, starting at 6 p.m. • West on 67 Street out of Lloydminster at 6 p.m., south on Range Road 14, west on Highway 16 and north on Highway 36 to Two Hills, about 160 kilometres. March 11, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. • East on Highway 45 from Two Hills, north on Highway 36/Hwy29 and east on Highway 28 to Radway, about 110 kilometres. March 12, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. • West on Highway 28 from Radway and north on Highway 63 to Wandering River, about 150 kilometres. March 13, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. • North on Highway 63 from Wandering River to Fort McMurray, about 200 kilometres. March 14, between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. • North on Highway 63 from Fort McMurray to the site, about 90 kilometres. Motorists may face up to 30-minute delays during nightly rolling stops as the load moves on non-twinned sections of highway. Travellers may wish to select alternate routes.

Beginning March 5, both lanes of Highway 744 at Pat’s Creek in Peace River will be closed temporarily for six days as crews install concrete panels to replace of a portion of culvert that was damaged by the June 2013 flood. Detour routes To access Highway 2 southbound from downtown Peace River, motorists will use 96 Avenue, 98 Street, Highway 744 and then the exit ramp to Highway 2. (view map) For access to downtown Peace River from Highway 2 northbound, motorists will exit at the Hwy744/Hwy 2 overpass, turn left at the bottom of the deceleration ramp, then use 93 avenue, follow it while it turns into 98 street, 90 Avenue, and finally 94 Street (River Road).

The load limit on the route remains 45-thousand kilograms, including trailers. The municipality is reminding drivers that the route is isolated with no cell coverage, gas stations or road patrol. 4X4 vehicles are recommended and drivers are reminded to watch for rough patches and narrow turns. Bridge over Bow river is closed due to flooding. It results in highway 547 closure from Junction highway 901 to Arrowwood. Local traffic can travel. As the damage visited on this bridge during the flooding was significiant our consultants and engineers are continuing to assess the damage. Bridge will be open to Traffic in late March, 2014.

Additional Information: Highway 532 from junction Forestry Trunk road to Johnson Creek Bridge remains closed. As the damage visited on this area during the flooding was significant our consultants and engineers are continuing to assess the damage. However subject to addressing environmental concerns, safety matters, construction and weather issues we estimate that this route will reopen to the public in July 2014.

These is no winter maintenance on Highway 734 from 4.5 Km north of Jct Hwy 591 to 14 Km north of Jct Hwy 591. This section is not officially closed but is not safe to travel in the winter. Travel is not recommended.
